EAPO being involved in all stages of the international phase of the PCT for the first time

The first international application has been published on the website of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), where the Eurasian Patent Office (EAPO), in accordance with its status as an International Searching Authority (ISA) and an International Preliminary Examination Authority (IPEA), was involved at all stages.

The international application filed through the EAPO describes a new system and a way to sell goods and services using a user mobile device with an installed application. With their help, the seller can sell more goods and services without attracting additional human resources. The buyer, in turn, gets the opportunity to purchase goods or services below market value at a price equal to the cost of the certificate. The invention involves automating the sales mode due to more reliable and accurate identification of user data, which can track the drawing of goods or services in real time, regardless of their location.

The application was submitted by inventor Murat Abenov (Republic of Kazakhstan) to the EAPO as the Receiving Office on July 5, 2022. The Agency was first listed as an ISA there. After conducting an international search and preparing a search report and a report on patentability, in January 2023, the applicant submitted a request to the EAPO for an international preliminary examination. A full list of countries and regional patent offices where the applicant has the opportunity to obtain legal protection can be found in the application published on the WIPO website.

After the EAPO international preliminary examination, based on its results, the applicant will have an opportunity to make an informed decision in which countries he will seek legal protection of his invention.

"Due to obtaining the status of the PCT international authority, the Eurasian Patent Office can act as a "one window" for applicants of the Eurasian space to patent their inventions worldwide. The unconditional advantages in this case are the opportunity for the inventor to apply independently and go through all the stages of the international patenting procedure in one office. Firstly, this greatly facilitates the procedure of registration and submission of documents, since the EAPO provides an opportunity to carry out the paperwork on an international application entirely in electronic form in Russian through the ePCT system. Secondly, it is much more profitable, since it reduces the costs of translation, postal forwarding of documents and services of patent attorneys," said Grigory Ivliev, President of the EAPO.
