On November 20th, 2019, a delegation of the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) visited the Eurasian Patent Office (EAPO) to study the practice of oppositions and appeals. The delegation was headed by Mr. Gao Shenghua, Deputy Director of Reexamination and Invalidation Department.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the EAPO units dealing with examination, oppositions and appeals within the administrative revocation procedure of the Eurasian patent, as well as international cooperation.

Mr. Gao Shenghua greeted the participants of the meeting and noted the importance of intensifying specific areas of cooperation within the framework of the actively developing collaboration between CNIPA and EAPO in the recent years.

The CNIPA delegation informed the EAPO representatives about the activities of Reexamination and Invalidation Department, its organizational structure and main features, and expressed interest in the detailed study of the unique aspects of the Eurasian patent examination and the Eurasian patent opposition procedures.

EAPO experts made presentations on the main EAPO activities and Eurasian patent law approaches related to the oppositions and appeals to the EAPO decisions. EAPO delegation supported the proposal of CNIPA’s colleagues to establish professional contacts for further cooperation at the working level.
