Plenipotentiary representatives of the Eurasian Patent Organization (EAPO) member states took part in the forty-first (twenty-ninth ordinary) session of the EAPO Administrative Council held on September 20-21, 2022.
The agenda of the session covered more than a dozen of issues. Along with procedural issues, the document outlined the key initiatives of the Eurasian Patent Office for the development and improvement of the regional intellectual property system. The Administrative Council considered the creation on the basis of the EAPO of a regional system of legal protection for two more IP subject matters – a utility model and a trademark. The Office also offered an initiative to create a single Eurasian court jurisdiction in the field of intellectual property. Information about the benefits that the EAPO member states will receive first when implementing the above initiatives was presented in the reference documents for the session of the Administrative Council.
As a result of the discussions, the Administrative Council generally supported the initiatives of the Office in a number of areas, noted the need for additional research, including an analysis of the financial and economic impact of their implementation in the EAPO member states, as well as a deeper consideration of the interest of the EAPO member states in their realization. The Administrative Council also supported the initiatives of the Office to develop electronic document flow between the Eurasian and national patent offices and create a legal mechanism for including 3D models claimed for patenting in Eurasian applications by approving the relevant EAPO regulations. The Administrative Council also discussed a number of issues related to the EAPO budgets for 2022 and 2023.
On the first day of the Administrative Council session, the EAPO employees, citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan, were presented with the Letters of Appreciation from the Minister of Justice of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kanat Musin in honor of the 30th anniversary of the justice and the patent system of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The solemn culmination of the first day of the Administrative Council session was the decision to present the highest award of the EAPO – V.I. Blinnikov Gold Medal “For Promoting Invention and Patent Practice” – to Ata Annaniyazov, plenipotentiary representative of Turkmenistan in the Administrative Council, Mirzo Ismoilzoda, plenipotentiary representative of the Republic of Tajikistan in the Administrative Council, and Kamran Imanov, plenipotentiary representative of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Administrative Council. The medals for the first two laureates were presented by EAPO President Grigory Ivliev.
