On July 6, 2023, the 64th Series of Meetings of the Assemblies of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Member States, the key international IP-related event, opened in Geneva (Switzerland).

In the general statement of the Russian Federation, the Head of the Rospatent Mr. Yury Zubov highlighted Russia’s achievements in IP, including the implementation of legislative initiatives aimed at transforming the business climate (in particular, tax incentives, the introduction of the opportunity for the self-employed persons to register trademarks, etc.), promotion of national brands (in particular using the "Made in Russia" program implemented by the Russian Export Centre), and Russia's accession to the Lisbon System for the international registration of geographical indications and appellations of origin.

"We are pleased to report that Russian applicants remain active users of the IP services, and, with the country’s accession to the Lisbon System, the Russian Federation has become a member of all international registration systems related to IP. We are ready to significantly contribute to their development and improvement", – said the Head of Rospatent. At the same time, he criticized the attempts of some countries to politicize the work of WIPO and to use its agenda, program of work, and budget as a tool to put pressure on the Secretariat and other Member States.

"Program of Work and Budget of WIPO and its External Offices should not be affected by the political ambitions of individual countries and become an instrument of political pressure put on the Organization's Secretariat and Member States. The Russian Federation is ready to work constructively with all interested Member States to ensure that the global IP ecosystem contributes to the comprehensive development of the states" – emphasized the Head of the Russian delegation.

The 64th Series of Meetings of the WIPO Assemblies, taking place on July 6-14, 2023, will bring together diplomats and representatives of the IP Offices of the Member States.
